Employee Health Programs

LTU offers its employees several insurance options. As your employer, the University picks up a large percentage of the overall cost of insurance programs offered. Your insurance coverage begins on the first of the month following thirty (30) days of full time employment for eligible employees and their dependent children to age 19 or age 25 if full-time student.

Following are the health care plans offered:

Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO) Plan provided through Alliance Health and Life - www.hap.org is a managed care program in which members receive care within a specific provider network.  Members must use the EPO provider network exclusively, however, they are not required to select a primary care physician.  Referrals are not required for in-network specialty care.  Medical services received outside the EPO network are not covered.  The plan includes deductibles, copays and coinsurance costs.

Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) Plan provided through Blue Care Network – www.bcbsm.com/bcn/ is a managed care program.  Members choose a personal care physician (PCP) from a network of providers.  Members must work with the PCP for specialty care referrals and admissions to hospitals. HMO plans give the greatest level of benefit but are the most restrictive in health care. There are no annual deductibles or coinsurance.

Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) Plan provided through Alliance Health and Life - www.hap.org enables members to use "preferred" providers to receive incentives such as preventive services when in-network.  Members also may use out-of-network providers, however, will incur increased in-network and out-of-network coinsurance and deductible costs.  Members have greater freedom of choice in the PPO-style arrangement where there is no PCP requirement.
