DEMS Program Requirements
The doctor of engineering program consists of four segments which are designed to provide the candidates with the required knowledge to achieve their goals as follows:
I. Manufacturing Systems Core (24 credits)
1. EME 6103 Engineering Materials
2. EME 6203 Manufacturing Processes
3. EME 6303 Computer Integrated Manufacturing
4. EME 6403 Quality Control
5. EME 6503 Manufacturing Productivity
6. EME 6603 Engineering Economics
7. EME 6703 Manufacturing Systems
8. MGT 6013 Leadership and Management
II. DEMS Core (18 credits)
1. EME 7103 Design of Experiments
2. EME 7203 Manufacturing Systems Simulation
3. EME 7303 Design for Reliability
4. EME 7403 Design for Manufacturing
5. EME 7503 Process Control
6. EME 7603 Strategic Planning
III. Electives (12 credits)
Four courses to strengthen the preparation of the candidates to solve the problem.
IV. DEMS Dissertation (30 credits min.)
EME 800X Dissertation
Dissertation Problem
The solution of an appropriate dissertation problem that arises from the manufacturing facility which when solved will have relevance to advancing the ‘state of the art’ in manufacturing. The result may be a new manufacturing related device, process, system, or software, etc., for which high level scholarship engineering expertise and ingenuity are required to find the solution.
While intermediate results might be quite immediately useful to the manufacturing facility, the total objective of the problem must remain the mainconcern of the advisors. The advisors must ensure that a good blend of advanced technology and creativity is important for the solution of a manufacturing problem.
