Mission Statement

New for Fall 2008, Microsoft Office 2007

Microsoft Office 2007 will be installed on all laptops and tablets distributed to Faculty and Students starting with the fall 2008 software image.

The guides and instructional materials provided here will help you make the transition from Office 2003 to Office 2007.  Lawrence Tech IT Services is also providing Quick Reference Guides for most MS Office 2003 & 2007, Windows OS, Office:mac2008, and Mac OS applications.  Please look for these links at at bottom of the page.

IMPORTANT:  New file formats have been introduced in Office 2007 using Open XML.  Documents created in Office 2007 will have extentions of .docx (Word), .xlsx (Excel), or .pptx (PowerPoint).

Office 2003 cannot open documents created with Office 2007.   In order to ensure that users can share files across versions, Office 2003 users must install a compatibility pack in order to open, read, and make modifications to documents created with Office 2007. The compatibility pack is available from the Microsoft Download website.  Please note that you must install all the latest Service Packs and security updates before installing the compatibility pack.

Office 2007 users can open and modify files created in Office 2003.  To save files in Office 2003 format, click the Office button, select 'Save As,' and choose '...97-2003 Document.'

Getting Started

An additional tab called “Getting Started” has been added to this year’s Office 2007 image on all our laptops and tablets.  Click on this tab to find instructional materials, guides, videos and demos to help you become familiar with the new features and layout of Office 2007.

Quick Reference Guides

Lawrence Tech Quick Guides provide concise reference to the most common commands and features for a variety of different software applications. Available in PDF format, you can use these guides online or print them as needed.  They will look best when printed doubled sided in color.
