Banner Gets Upgrade This Weekend

The Banner Student Information System will be upgraded this weekend, Mar. 5, 6 and 7, and therefore unavailable from Friday night through Sunday. The upgrade is for the Student, Financial Aid, Finance and Human Resource Systems. Banner 6.0 means minimal changes for  the end users. The biggest change you'll notice is the look and feel of the Introduction page. The red door will be replaced with an X, which users will click on to exit the system or forms. Other key differences include:
            * The Direct Access box is slightly to the left on each form and not in the middle of the form.
            * The front page is no longer divided in half. It's one page with a menu on the left. You can still create your own menu for your             reference.
            * The first-page menu will be tied to your security role. Therefore, if you don't have access to a system, module or form, it will             not appear on your menu.
            * The flash light button (your search tool) has been changed to a magnifying glass.

After the first page, everything else is the same. Upgrading to Banner 6.0 moves us closer to a Web environment.
Training takes place in March, April and May. Noreen Naeyaert, assistant registrar, will be sending training dates and times to everyone, soon.  The Banner Team Leads along with their staffs, and the Banner IT staff have all tested the new 6.0 systems, modules and forms for the past two months. As you move through the new forms for the first time, if you have questions, contact the Team Leads for each system. The Team Leads are:

DeShawn Warrick, Team Lead Human Resources - X2150
Holly Diamond, Team Lead Student - X3114
Toni Lalomia, Team Lead Finance - X2129
Mark Martin, Team Lead Financial Aid -X2126
Karen Sadanowicz, Team Lead Admissions - X3163
Bonnie Woloski, Team Lead Accounts Receivable - X2175
Further Clarifying FERPA

Student privacy is protected under the Family Education Rights Privacy Act (FERPA). This federal law outlines what student information may be released, even to family. For example, if a student is not a minor, a faculty member must have the student’s written consent in order to talk to about his/her academic progress with the parents.
In addition, FERPA ensures students certain rights related to viewing of their educational records, and requesting amendments to those records.
While there are exceptions as to when information can be released. Questions regarding these issues should be directed to the Office of the Registrar at registrar@ltu.edu or x3100.
To ensure a clear understanding of FERPA and how it affects interactions with students, Joseph Roof, from the Board of Directors of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) will speak to faculty and staff, on Thursday, Mar. 25, from 12:30-2 p.m. in S100. There will be time for questions after Roof speaks. Please RSVP to Vivian Megally in the Office of the Registrar at megally@ltu.edu.
Marburger Award Nominations

Take a moment to nominate that faculty member, administrator or staff member who makes an outstanding contribution to the University. Nominations for the 2004 Marburger Fund for Excellence in Achievement will be accepted until Friday, Mar. 26. The awards will be presented near Open House weekend, so visitors to campus will be able to appreciate the recipients' achievements.
You may nominate more than one person for each category, each on a separate ballot. Ballot forms are available at my.ltu.edu. Ballot boxes are located around campus, or you can send your nominations inter-office mail to Louise Garrett, Office of the President.
Each recipient receives $1,000. The funds for the Mary E. and Richard E. Marburger Excellence in Achievement Awards were provided by colleagues, alumni, and friends, and the Marburgers themselves, when he retired as president in 1993.
