Dr. Walter Dean and Dr. William Madden (Natural Sciences) –Hybridization of University Chemistry I Lab Using Pre-Lab Lectures on Streaming Video
Dr.’s Dean and Madden propose to add an e-Learning component, consisting of online lectures.  To promote effective use of laboratory time, encourage advance preparation on the part of students, and provide resources that students can use in performing their experiments and in reporting the results.

Dr. Valentina Tobos and Professor Sandra Yarema (Natural Sciences) –  Mathematic Foundations for Science Education
This proposed seminar is designed to develop and exercise mathematical skills for candidates in the Master of Science Education (MSE) program. The course will be set up as a Hybrid Format Seminar that will help students review and practice mathematical techniques and problem solving in scientific applications.


Dr. Marianne Wilhelm (ECE – Biomedical Engineering) – Enhancing Student Learning Through the Use of Instructional Technology for BME Internships
The purpose of this proposal is to develop an opportunity for students to interact and communicate while conducting internships.  Increasing student interaction throughout the internship will allow students to share their experiences on a more frequent basis regardless of their work schedules or geographical location.


Professor Dan Price (Architecture) – Electrical Methods II
The goal of this proposal is to develop a learning model which provides both different learning entry points and different types of learning opportunities.  The model will provide the opportunity for students to customize their learning experience based on what works best for them based on their individual needs and interests.

The grants are made possible through the VITRC department whose mission is to enhance the teaching and learning process in the university community by promoting the integration of emerging technological tools into classroom instruction. 

VITRC annually awards up to four $2000 grants that are meant to be an incentive for faculty to adapt current courses or create new courses to enhance the e-Learning environment at LTU. 

These grants have been awarded annually since 2005 for faculty seeking to develop innovative hybrid and/or fully online courses to support the application of Blackboard, Streaming Video, Wimba, and Video Conferencing.
