ORGANIZATION BY-LAWS

A.  MISSION

1.  The mission of the Lawrence Technological University Center for Sustainability (Center) is to develop a self-sustaining network of interdisciplinary programs to advance the field of sustainable design and development across a breadth of communities including academic, professional, municipal and commercial groups.

 

B.  ORGANIZATION

1.  The formation organization is comprised of the following individuals:

Ed Orlowski
Dr. Rob Fletcher
Dr. Nicole Villeneuve
Dr. Steve Howell
Mark Heiber
Paul Goldsmith
Dr. Yuhong Wang.

2.  The formation organization and those others present at the October 2006 meeting will affirm its first Board of Directors by nomination and vote.  The Board shall consist of two representatives from each of the four colleges who shall serve for a term of two years.  The Board shall select from its ranks, a Director who shall serve as the chairperson of the Board, an Assistant Director who shall act in the absence of the Director, and a Secretary-Treasurer.

3.  The initial term of one of the Board members from each of the colleges shall be for only one year. 

  1. Each representative serves for a term of two years.
  2. Term of service commences in January of each year.
  3. Representatives will serve in staggered terms.
  4. If a representative leaves before the end of a term, a replacement shall be appointed by the Board to complete the term.
  5. There is no limit to the number of terms that can be served.

C.  MEMBERSHIP

1.  General membership and attendance shall be open to all full-time and adjunct faculty, staff and administrators of the University as well as individuals or organizations from outside the University who have an interest in promoting a sustainable environment.

2.  General members from outside the University will be encouraged to attend and participate fully in the meetings.

 

D.  ELECTIONS

1.  No later than October of each year, the Nominating Committee shall solicit and nominate candidates to fill positions for the subsequent term.  Elections shall take place at a regularly scheduled meeting prior to the end of the Fall semester. 

 

E.  MEETINGS

1.  The Center representatives shall meet regularly during each academic year at a time and place convenient to the representatives.  Meetings will be open to University individuals and guests interested in sustainability.  Summer break meetings will be scheduled as needed at the determination of the Board.

2.  Final actions of the Center are subject to the regulations and practices of the University and are subject to the concurrence of the University Administration.

 

F.  COMMITTEES

1.  The following standing committees are created in accord with the objectives of the Center and shall be accountable to the Center:

  1. Recognition Committee responsible for recording University demonstrated accomplishments, coordination of publication of efforts, recognition for active participants.
  2. Curriculum Committee responsible for promoting additions to and changes in curriculum to further the sustainable initiative.
  3. Nominating Committee responsible for annually soliciting individuals to serve as college representatives to the Center.
  4. External Relations Committee responsible for the promotion, assistance with the pursuit of external funding, acknowledgment of involvement and general publicity of the Center.
  5. University/Facility Sustainability Policy Committee responsible for researching and establishing appropriate sustainable products and practices.
  6. Recycling Committee responsible for pursuit of recycling alternatives and promotion of the practice on the LTU campus.

G.  RULES OF ORDER

1.  A two-third majority vote of the Center representatives (5 of the 8) is required to change any of the Organization By-Laws.

2.  Robert Rules of Order for all other matters will be followed at all meetings.

 

H.  ADOPTION

1.  These By-Laws have been voted upon by the membership and reviewed and accepted by the Provost and are hereby adopted.
