The Michigan Roundtable on Diversity and Inclusion presents a first look at "cultural awareness". Students are encouraged to bring their lunch and enjoy various speakers who engage the audience with stories of personal struggles and successes.

Eid al-Fitr Celebration (Café Lawrence)
Often abbreviated to Eid, meaning the breaking of the fasting period, this Muslim holiday marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

Women's Self-Defense (Ridler Field House)
Learn the art of Commando Krav Maga, a unique form of self-defense based on simple and reflexive moves. The techniques taught have been battle-tested time and time again and could save your life!

Behind the Swoosh: Sweatshops and Social Justice (Lear Auditorium)
Jim Keady, theologian, activist, educator, elected official, and founding director of Educating for Justice, Inc., gives and informative presentation on Nike factories. Keady recently spent a month in Indonesia where Nike factory workers live on $1.25 a day. He will dicuss his experience as well as information on Nike's lastest labor and environmental practices and challenges.

Diwali Celebration (Café Lawrence)
Diwali is an official holiday in India and a significant festival celebrated by several religions, including Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Also known as the "festival of lights," Diwali symbolizes the victory of good over evil.

Diversity Movie Series - With Honors (A200)
Gain insight and a better understanding of issues that affect diversity through movies and discussions. With Honors explores college life and unlikely friendships when a self-absorbed Harvard University graduate student (Brendan Fraser) loses his thesis and it ends up in the hands of a homeless man (Joe Pesci).

Diversity Movie Series - The Fisher King (A200)
Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams star in this heartwarming film about a radio shock-jock whose comments inadvertently lead to violence. The DJ (Bridges) attempts to find redemption by helping a homeless man (Williams) whose life was shattered after witnessing his wife's murder.

Free testing, activities, and educational opportunities help to shed light on AIDS issues.

Diversity Movie Series - Gia (A200)
This fact-based film stars Angelina Jolie as Gia Carangi, a supermodel who lived fast and died young from the ravages of AIDS. The film follows Gia, a small town girl who went from busing tables to a successful modeling career that was destroyed by drugs and toxic relationships.
