The Professional Development Center's SIX SIGMA programs assist individuals, students, and businesses with product and process improvements specific to the best practices of an industry or business function. We do this on premises at your worksite, in workshops on campus and at satellite centers, and one-on-one.   At the Professional Development Center you can learn to use the methods and strategies associated with six sigma transformation at all levels, from basic to expert

  • ONSITE TRAINING - any PDC training course can be offered at your site -- economical, targeted training
  • CERTIFICATE and SHORT COURSES - Available in Lean/Six Sigma/design for six sigma, online, on premises or at LTU.
  • IN-PLANT COACHING - A follow-up to certificate courses. Three month engagement that is one-two days per week of coaching a team on implementation details (e.g., leaning out a process, refining a product based on voice of the customer input, eliminating variability for an out-of-control process)

SIX SIGMA GREEN BELT CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Who Should Participate

Any staff person is welcome to participate – there are no pre-requisites for taking this course. It is helpful if students have been exposed to college statistics (one class). The Ground School section of this program is designed to refresh everyone’s knowledge of statistics. Both service and manufacturing-type companies can benefit from six sigma training.

Program Overview

Six Sigma Green Belts are an important component to any successful Six Sigma program. In addition to supporting projects and Six Sigma Black Belts, Six Sigma Green Belts can lead their own projects, thereby increasing the financial success of the entire Six Sigma program. LTU’s certificate program is rigorous, uses Minitab as a teaching aid, and leads to a certificate as a six sigma green belt

Program Specifications

  • Students have 120 days to complete the program and project (extensions are provided if necessary)
  • Students use Minitab software (version 14 preferred) to complete exercises. The software can be rented on a monthly basis (more details at www.minitab.com)
  • Students are quizzed after each module using LTU’s Blackboard Learning system (online testing, non-proctored)
  • Students interact with instructor via email, virtual discussion rooms, and phone
  • Students must maintain 85% average across all quizzes and final certification exam, and successfully complete the project, to earn certification from LTU (also awarded 4 CEU units).
  • Program Cost: $1,950 per person, with discounts available for groups
  • No special software is required to take this course; you simply log-on to LTU’s e-learning program (Gradepoint) and begin taking the training.

SIX SIGMA BLACK BELT CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Who Should Participate

It is highly recommended that participants complete the green belt program before the black belt, or at least be very comfortable with statistics and have direct experience with six sigma tools. It is helpful if students have been exposed to one or more college statistics courses. The Ground School section of this program is designed to refresh everyone’s knowledge of statistics. Both service and manufacturing-type companies can benefit from six sigma training.

Program Overview

Black Belt Six Sigma team leaders are responsible for implementing process improvement projects (DMAIC or DFSS) within the business -- to increase customer satisfaction levels and business productivity. Black Belts are knowledgeable and skilled in the use of the Six Sigma methodology and tools, and have typically completed four weeks of Six Sigma training, and have demonstrated mastery of the subject matter through the completion of project(s) and an exam. LTU’s certificate program is rigorous, uses Minitab as a teaching aid, and leads to a certificate as a six sigma black belt.

Program Specifications

  • Students have up to one-year to complete the program and project (extensions are provided if necessary)
  • Students use Minitab software (version 14 preferred) to complete exercises. The software can be rented on a monthly basis (more details at www.minitab.com)
