Lean Training
The Professional Development Center's lean programs provide specialized methodologies for bringing lean principles to your organization. We use best practices based in the appropriate industry or business function to truly drive out waste and drive in sustainable value. We do this on premises at your worksite, in workshops on campus, and one-on-one.
-
ONSITE TRAINING - any PDC training course can be offered at your site -- economical, targeted training
-
CERTIFICATE and SHORT COURSES - Available in Lean/Six Sigma/design for six sigma, online, on premises or at LTU.
- IN-PLANT COACHING - A follow-up to certificate courses. Three month engagement that is one-two days per week of coaching a team on implementation details (e.g., leaning out a process, refining a product based on voice of the customer input, eliminating variability for an out-of-control process)
We currently offer the following open enrollment programs:

LEAN SERVICE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
Customized program dates, times and locations are available
Program Fee: $1,950
Program Overview: Lean is defined as the efficiency in which customer interest is translated into customer satisfaction. Therefore, it must encompass all areas of a business. Companies have struggled with the application of Lean Thinking to non-production processes. It involves a different way of thinking, communicating, making decisions and managing. This program will prepare participants to apply Lean Enterprise concepts to information intensive processes, often found in office and service environments. Contact Tim Meloche to discuss the onsite option: 248.204.4050 or meloche@ltu.edu

LEAN MANUFACTURING CERTIFICATION PROGRAM LEVEL I
Program Overview: The LTU lean manufacturing program level I provides a baseline training knowledge of the Toyota Production System and its application to shop floor and manufacturing operations of any size or type. Participants are exposed to modules that consist of overview of lean with simulations, value stream mapping, creating continuous flow, the supporting lean tools (5 S, standard work, job instruction, kanban and leading the change to lean. The level II program (4 days, to-be-scheduled) is a train-the-trainer program focused on value stream mapping, kaizens and running lean overview simulations. Contact Tim Meloche to discuss the onsite option: 248.204.4050 or meloche@ltu.edu

LEAN DESIGN CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
Program Overview: attend and learn the application of lean thinking to product engineering, including design, development and launch functions with a final focus on error-free product launches. The program clearly describes the Toyota Product Development System (TPDS); covers all tools in the system; features two simulations demonstrating tools used before and after product development; provides a unique and customized version of Value Stream Mapping for Product Development, and finally lays out the management structure and behaviors that must occur for success. Contact Tim Meloche to discuss the onsite option: 248.204.4050 or meloche@ltu.edu

LEAN HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
Program Overview: attend and learn the application of lean thinking to healthcare enterprises. The program modules include a descriptive overview of lean, with application points to healthcare; value stream mapping and A3 tools to support lean efforts; healthcare simulation designed to highlight lean tools and where to apply; a supporting lean tools module with hundreds of application photos, and finally the leadership component of making sure lean initiatives succeed. Contact Time Meloche to discuss the onsite option: 248.204.4050 or meloche@ltu.edu

LEAN PHARMACEUTICAL CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
Program Overview: The current challenge of high-speed reliable delivery combined with growing regulation and price pressures makes this a time when all pharmaceutical companies must become lean or cease to exist. Manufacturing firms must identify leverage points with the greatest impact on the bottom line and then exploit these to achieve world-class performance. This program presents a foundation for identifying such leverage points in the pharmaceutical industry and then provides practical implementation strategies to achieve significant and lasting improvements. LEAN GOVERNMENT CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
Customized program dates, times and locations are available
Program Fee: $1,950 (includes training, books and lunch/breaks)
Program Overview: Lean is defined as the efficiency in which customer interest is translated into customer satisfaction. Therefore, it must encompass all areas of a business. Companies have struggled with the application of Lean Thinking to non-production processes. It involves a different way of thinking, communicating, making decisions and managing. This program will prepare participants to apply Lean Enterprise concepts to information intensive processes, often found in office and service environments.
Efficiency is measured in terms of lead time, productivity, quality and inventory. A Lean Enterprise relentlessly drives "Non-Value-Added" waste from the overall system that constitutes the business, by improving the flow of materials and information. The fact is that most organizations have a great deal of waste within their systems. By redesigning key business processes, much waste can be eliminated, thereby enhancing its ability to create more value – a hallmark of a Lean Enterprise.
Special examples pertinent to government situations have been developed and make this program unique.
