On Nov. 20 the women’s basketball team of Lawrence Technological University took on the Racers of Northwestern Ohio looking for a win that would announce its arrival in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Conference (WHAC). The Lady Blue Devils did just that as they defeated a conference opponent for the first time, 91-79.
Right from the tip, the Lady Blue Devils were off and running, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back. LTU controlled most of the first half, giving it a 48-31 lead going into halftime.
Despite the Blue Devils shooting 45 percent from the field, Northwestern Ohio was able to inch its way back into the game, outscoring LTU, 48-43, in the second half. However, a Racers comeback was not in store as the Blue Devils were able to knock down free throws late, giving them the 91-79 victory.
Allison Bicknell and Jackie Hood had a game-high 24 points apiece, while Hali Butler added 14 points. Hood also collected 10 rebounds to complete her double-double night.
For the Racers of Northwestern Ohio, it was a team effort with four players – Shaye Warman, Lauren Hopfner, Saige Meyer, and Madison Coldren – scoring in double figures.
The win provided two firsts for the Lady Blue Devils – their first win in WHAC Conference play (1-1) and their first victory on Lawrence Tech’s campus – and brought their record back to .500 at 2-2.
The next game is Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Marygrove College. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
