The Detroit chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) has honored Christian Forrest and Tracy McGhee of Lawrence Technological University with an Award of Excellence in Digital Communication Channels for the recent redesign of the LTU.edu website.
Forrest is manager of web services and McGhee is web production assistant in LTU’s Office of Marketing and Public Affairs.
The 33rd Renaissance Awards were presented at a ceremony held at the Detroit Historical Museum on June 26. IABC members from four other states were the judges.
In addition to the overall quality of the website, the LTU redesign project was judged on a demonstration of met goals and objectives, implementation challenges and solutions, technical enhancements, professional execution, and audience communication.
The website redesign included:
• Several new design templates that complement LTU’s new “Possible is Everything” brand campaign.
• Standardization of academic program content and display.
• Several enhancements to the content management tool.
• Clear calls to actions.
• An improved mechanism to share news and events across the site based on content relevance.
Rami Lullu of Stoneface Media, Inc. provided programming and technical consulting on this project, and Lovio George Communications and Design defined portions of the “look and feel” of the website.
“The new brand identity was a wide-reaching change that affected everything from font and primary brand colors to taglines and logos. The LTU website needed to reflect this significant change in brand as well as integrate some features that would greatly increase contact from prospective students,” Forrest said. “The website offers clear landing pages for all intended audiences, including current students, faculty, and staff.”
Another overall goal was improved functionality of the website. Many of the needed improvements were identified in a series of focus groups with representatives from each of LTU’s four colleges, as well as future and current students, and members of university administration.
