Graduate Certificate in
Nonprofit Management and Leadership

The College of Management's Center for Nonprofit Management is pleased to offer a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management and Leadership in Traverse City. This 12 credit Graduate Certificate is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to lead and manage a charitable 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization in today's environment. The Certificate requires 12 credit hours of graduate-level coursework including three specially designed nonprofit management courses, and one elective drawn from traditional MBA courses.

The Coursework

Four courses (12 credits) consisting of:

  • Comprehensive Fund Development for Nonprofits (MGT6083) .
  • LeadingOrganizational Changeand Building Capacityfor Nonprofits (MGT6033).
  • Strategic Nonprofit Management (MGT6073).
  • One elective - The candidate will work with their academic advisor to choose a course from a menu of MBA tract coursework in areas such as leadership, financial management, marketing, project management, human resource management, operations management and MIS.

Students will learn the knowledge and skills needed to:

  • Understand the valued role the nonprofit sector plays in today's society
  • Implement strategic competencies needed to lead a nonprofit organization
  • Analyze and manage strengths and weaknesses in organizational systems
  • Understand comprehensive fundraising by a nonprofit organization
  • Design successful fundraising proposals
  • Create strategies to build communities of support
  • Build and use communication competencies
  • Learn best practices of partnering with business and government.
