Curriculum
The curriculum consists of 30 credit hours of course work, including 18 hours of core courses and 12 hours of electives in the student’s chosen area of concentration, which can be enterprise security, enterprise resource planning, or project management. A capstone course, either technical or managerial, completes the program.
Students without an IT background must take foundation (pre-core) course work in statistical methods, programming, and management information systems. Students who lack relevant business experience must take the Foundations of Business course.
Pre-Core Coursework
The MSIS pre-core curriculum has been re-defined to address the needs of IT professionals, business professionals, or "career-switchers" seeking a MSIS degree. “Career-switchers” who lack IT experience will need to take pre-core coursework in Statistical Methods, Programming, Foundations of Business, and Management Information Systems. IT professionals who lack relevant business experience would need to take the Foundations of Business pre-core class.
Core Curriculum
The MSIS core curriculum consists of 18 hours of coursework. The six core MSIS courses are:
- HRM6033 MGT6013 Leadership and Management or MGT 6173 Foundations of Management
- MIS6153/or MGT6153 Project Management
- MIS6113 Database Models
- MIS6123 Analysis and Design of Complex Systems
- MIS6143 Telecommunications and Networks
- MIS7593 Managing Information Technology or MIS 7493 Technical Capstone
Concentrations: MSIS students will be able to concentrates their studies in Enterprise Security Management, Enterprise Resource Planning, and Project Management. Students may also select a "tailored concentration" with their academic advisor.
