Association of Fundraising Professionals Collegiate Chapter at Lawrence Tech University

Lawrence Tech University is pleased to have been selected by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (www.afpnet.org) as the site for the first AFP Student Chapter in the State of Michigan.   In partnership with AFP of Greater Detroit, the Center for Nonprofit Management and LTU Advancement Office, we are pleased to offer all LTU students a new professional organization to join which is dedicated to professional fundraising.

Facts About Fundraising Careers

Question: What do professional fundraisers do?

Answer: Professional fundraisers conduct research, plan, and carry out strategies to convince individuals, companies, foundations, and governments to donate money to their nonprofit organizations. All types of nonprofit organizations employ professional fundraisers (e.g. hospitals, private colleges, museums, environmental and social service organizations).

Question: Is professional fundraiser a career option?

Answer: Yes, professional fundraising is a highly skilled, professional career where jobs are plentiful in today’s growing nonprofit sector. Recently, US News and World Report identified fundraising as a top career in 2008.

Question: What salary level do professional fundraisers get paid?

Answer: For 2006, the average salary of a charitable fundraiser in the U.S. was $71,305.
