Interlibrary Loan
Faculty, students and staff may request books or articles not owned by LTU from other libraries. LTU Library has reciprocal agreements, Infopass agreements, Michicard, and numerous finding tools to locate materials at nearby libraries for users to pursue on their own. Library staff can assist you in any of these methods.
However, sometimes no library in the area has the material needed. Interlibrary loan can fill the gap: a requested item can come from anywhere in North America.
There is a $3.00 co-payment for students, but no additional charge unless the loan charge from the lending library to LTU is excessive. Faculty requests follow a slightly different rule. In any case, the library attempts whenever possible to borrow from libraries that have no additional charges.
Types of materials that can be borrowed:
-books, but not reference books, rare books, reserve materials. Bestsellers and brand new books are often not lent out. Proceedings, and dissertatations are often available.
-photocopies of articles, from magazines, journals, or newspapers, but usually only paper copies via mail or fax, not in electronic format.
-videos are sometimes available, but libraries often restrict these from being lent.
