AmeriCorps VISTA

Michigan Campus Compact AmeriCorps *VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) members organize and facilitate service opportunities for college students across the state of Michigan. The MCC AmeriCorps *VISTA members play an essential role in the promotion of service, civic engagement, and community involvement on college campuses. Through their work on campus and in the community, *VISTA members are able to address the needs of their community.

Year-Long Project: Holistic Volunteerism – Connecting local volunteerism to the larger picture
Description: The goal of this project is to develop a new way of thinking of volunteerism on the Lawrence Tech Campus.  Students will develop a strong sense of individual ownership in volunteering, particular to their interests and passions.  Students will also learn that volunteering encompasses a wide range of activities, and there is not only one way to become civically engaged.  They will also learn the importance of reflection and connecting what they are doing, experiencing and learning to the broader picture.

The Blue Devil Service Campaign Report and Service Learning Reflection Manual are both outcomes of Elyse's Year-Long Project.
