 Society of University Leaders

The Society of University Leaders (SOUL) is a student organization that is dedicated to providing students with opportunities to develop their leadership abilities and give back to their communities.

What started as a Legacy Project for the first Leadership Models and Practices course, SOUL has evolved into an organization committed to inclusive leadership development through service and community engagement. The students involved have been instrumental in redesigning the organization to be entirely dedicated to service.

Members and officers of SOUL understand leadership is more than a title or a position; it's a way of being. By getting involved in bettering their communities, students in SOUL develop a mindset of teamwork, communication, inclusiveness, empowerment and community building. They are committed to creating a culture of community service at the University.

SOUL supports programming out of the Office of Leadership Programs to provide service opportunities to Lawrence Tech students.

Past projects that have involved SOUL include:

  • Lawrence Tech's partnership with three other Detroit-area colleges and the United Way for Southeastern Michigan during the Martin Luther King Day of Service in January 2009.
  • Attending the Young Women, Strong Leaders Conference at Wayne State University in March 2009.
  • First-ever LTU Day of Service in April 2009.
  • Raised $2,000 as a Relay for Life team for the American Cancer Society in May 2009
