Leadership Curriculum
The Leadership Curriculum will ensure that all Lawrence Tech students engage in experiences that enable them to understand and practice the leadership skills they need to become positive contributors in society and in their professional lives.
Freshman Year
During their first year at the university, students enroll in the multi-disciplinary University Seminar. This course includes an introduction to different leadership types and tools. Students also participate in a semester-long service-learning project in which they work in teams to provide services or goods to a local social service agency in need of assistance.
Students also can participate in the “Finale” competition for the Foundations of the American Experience (SSC 2413) course.
Sophomore Year
Students will be introduced to different leadership models that include such skills and traits as creative problem-solving and character development. These methodologies will prepare students for leadership roles in which they will have to make decisions and find creative solutions to solve problems.
Junior Year
Students will have the opportunity to put the leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills they learned during their first two years into practice. Students will participate in a menu choice of leadership activities, including out-of-classroom and off-campus options.
Senior Year
Students participate in a capstone project in their field in which they will demonstrate leadership skills and work in teams. This project will emphasize experiences that promote the ability to analyze unfamiliar situations, assess risk, and formulate plans of action.
The four-year curricular plan was developed to meet the proposed “Undergraduate Educational Goals and Assessment Strategies” created by the Assessment Committee.
