Founder and Senior Managing Director of Beringea LLC in Farmington Hills. The largest venture capital firm headquartered in Michigan, Beringea has more than 70 portfolio companies in a range of sectors, including health care, clean tech, media, Internet technologies, and consumer products. Michigan investments include gloStream, Livio Radio, Sakti3, and Relume Technologies. The firm has more than 20 years of investing experience and also has offices in London and Shanghai. Rothstein was co-founder of GMA Capital, which merged with London-based ProVen Private Equity in 2001 to become Beringea. Rothstein has overall responsibility for Beringea’s activities and is directly involved in identifying, analyzing, and making investments; providing ongoing assistance and strategic advice to portfolio companies; and coordinating the investment exit process. He is co-manager of the $185 million InvestMichigan! Growth Capital Fund, which provides venture and expansion-stage capital to emerging businesses located in Michigan. Through June 2010, the fund has invested $46 million in 14 Michigan companies. Rothstein serves as a director of the Michigan Strategic Fund, one of the state’s leading economic development and finance authorities. He also is a board member of the Venture Michigan Fund, a $100 million fund-of-funds targeting Michigan-based venture capital firms, and sits on the investment committee of Global Rights Fund II and InvestCare Partners. Prior to Beringea, Rothstein was vice president of corporate finance at J.W. Korth and Co. He serves on Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s Council of Economic Advisors. The Michigan Venture Capital Association honored Rothstein with an “Above and Beyond” award for his work helping to create the 21st Century Investment Fund and the Venture Michigan Fund.
