WHERE BORN: Syosset, N.Y.
MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSON:
"There's a family side and a personal side. In my family, my wife and son – my son, who's only two, teaches me little lessons every day. My mom taught me to wish to be a strong person, not for an easy life – she experienced a lot of adversity and came through it. On the business side, Jack Welch has been influential, in terms of fairness in people, organizations and goals."
LAST BOOK READ:
"‘Trading for a Living,' by Alexander Elder, a Russian psychologist who's a professional stock trader. It's the best 100 pages I've read on stock price and volatility and human behavior."
WORDS THAT DESCRIBE ME:
"Tenacious. Thorough. Deliberate."
WHERE MY FIELD/INDUSTRY IS HEADED:
"I define our field as IP communications. I think it is twofold – the first trend is data center virtualization. What that means to the user is any time, anywhere, secure access on any device. People don't want to be tethered. They don't want to have to go to work to get to work. And it's very complex and individualized. More tangibly, we're high-speed plumbers; that's what we do for a living. I also see a convergence in physical and virtual security. With homeland security imperatives, what we see is a lot of people who want security monitoring – for example, checking the picture on file with the person who just swiped the card to enter the building."
FAVORITE TECHNOLOGICAL GADGET:
"The Handspring Treo 650 – it's the first real good stab at data center virtualization. It's a camera, an mp3 player, a phone, a PDA, email, calendar. It's slick."
"The North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. It's awe-inspiring, beautiful, serene and powerful. Not sure I could live there, but wow."
"I'm not proud of this, but chicken wings."
MY HIDDEN TALENT:
"I'm a chef. I think it's why my wife fell in love with me."
HOW I WANT TO BE REMEMBERED:
"Successful, freethinking, entrepreneur and family man."
