Deshawn Johnson

Deshawn Johnson serves as the Director of Human Resources for Lawrence Technological University.  She received her Bachelors of Arts degree from Spring Arbor College, Michigan in 1995.  In 2000, she was nationally certified as a Professional of Human Resources by the Society of Human Resources Management.  Ms. Johnson obtained her Master of Science from Central Michigan University in 2004.

Ms. Johnson has 15+ years of experience in the field of Human Resources. At Lawrence Technological University, she designed and implemented the foundational infrastructure of the Human Resources department.  She explored and incorporated progressive HR practices into the development of the HR Module in SCT Banner, with emphasis on policy development and review, consistency of corporate practices, benefit administration, employee relations and compensation.  Under her leadership, the employee benefits program was restructured, an employee performance evaluation process was instituted, and an informative online web site for employees was deployed.  Ms. Johnson participates on the University’s Strategic Plan Development team.

Previously as the Human Resources Manager for Innovision Technologies, Inc., her focus was on the development of a comprehensive human resources system, including the coordination and administration of policies covering benefits, salary administration, workers’ compensation, employee relations and corporate practices.

Ms. Johnson is a member of the Society of Human Resources Association, the Human Resources Association, Greater Detroit Chapter, and the American Business Women Association, Lake Shore Chapter.

Ms. Johnson is a strong advocate of life-long education.  She attends numerous seminars and conferences each year to keep abreast of new HR issues and insights.  Her hobbies include reading, home decorating and a passion for financial planning.
