Harry Butler
Harry Butler, Director of the Department of Campus Safety, joined Lawrence Tech as a Campus Safety Officer on April 22, 2002. On September 11, 2002, he was selected as Interim Director and promoted to Director on December 1, 2002. Harry received undergraduate Associates in Arts and Bachelor of Science in Administration (Public Administration concentration) from Ferris State University in 1973. He received a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University in 1989. Harry was designated as a Certified Fraud Examiner in 1991(inactive). He has over thirty years of combined corporate security and law enforcement experience.
Harry’s memberships include the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, National Association of Chiefs of Police, Michigan Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, American Society for Industrial Security, Crime Prevention Association of Michigan and Michigan Association of Vehicle Theft Investigators. He also is active in the City of Southfield PRIDE (Pooling our Resources In Defense of our Environment) program.
Harry’s duties at Lawrence Tech include the planning, coordinating and directing of the Campus Safety and Mail Service staff, campus patrol, emergency response, incidents, accidents, complaints, enforcement of University regulations, investigations, event and dignitary security, collection and dissemination of statistical and crime information, traffic and parking, supervision of access, video recording and surveillance systems. He also acts as the University’s liaison with local, county, state and federal law enforcement, homeland security, fire, emergency medical services, emergency management services and community health agencies.
