SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FOR EMPLOYEES HIRED BEFORE JANUARY 1, 1996
In addition to the TIAA/CREF retirement plan, the University offers a complementary, Blue Cross Blue Shield plan to supplement coverage received from Medicare for yourself and your spouse. This plan is secondary to Medicare. To qualify for this supplemental coverage the employee must meet the following criteria:
• The employee must have been an employee on a full-time basis with a minimum of ten (10) full years of service; and
• the employee must have reached the age of sixty five (65) years; and
• the employee must have been hired before January 1, 1996. (Employees hired January 1, 1996 and later do not qualify for the supplemental BCBS plan.)
The University pays for the cost of this insurance up to a cap of $150.00/month for single coverage and/or $300.00/month per couple. If the cost of coverage exceeds the amount paid by the university, the retiree will be responsible for the additional amount.
