Financial Aid Time Line

It's that time of year again when all students need to think about completing their annual application for financial aid.   Pay close attention to key deadline dates that may impact certain aid availability and early registration process.

9/15/08

2nd half tuition payment deadline (late fees will follow if tuition unpaid)
Late fees waived if financial aid payments cover outstanding student account balance

9/15/08 State enrollment verification deadline (MI Tuition grants & MI Competitive scholarships for GR & UG students cancelled for the year if students not enrolled for fall semester prior to this date - due to State budget constraints)
11/5/08 Advanced registration for Spring 09 begins (balance must be < $750)
12/1/08 Loans certified after this date may not be processed due to federal regulatory constraints
1/1/09 Great time to start thinking about completing the FAFSA for 09-10
1/1/09   Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for upcoming year 2009-2010is available on the web at www.FAFSA.ed.gov
1/5/09 Spring 2009 financial aid enrollment verification and disbursements begin on fund by fund basis depending on enrollment status
1/2009  Financial Aid Night at LTU -  TBA
2/2009 TBA - College Goal Sunday, students can get assistance with FAFSA (of course they can get assistance anytime at the Office of Financial Aid)
 3/1/09

Should complete tax returns prior to this date to allow using accurate tax return information on FAFSA

Deadline for Michigan Competitive Scholarship program (FAFSA data needs to be submitted prior to this date for Fed Central Processing Service)

Summer request for financial aid available on web

4/1/09

Office of Financial Aid priority deadline (will continue to process late applications but awards depend on availability of funding)

Award package notification begins for 0809

4/2009 Advanced registration begins for Summer/Fall 09(zero balance required)
4/15/09 Final week to accept 0809 aid offers
5/08/09 End of Spring 09 semester- no further aid available
5/15/09 Summer classes begin
6/15/09 Request for summr aid expires
7/1/09 Deadline for Michigan Tuition Grant (FAFSA data needs to be successfully submitted prior to this date to Fed Central Processing Service)
7/25/09 End of summer semester- final day to accept summer aid (2 pm deadline)
8/1/09 If applying for financial aid after this date, award notification prior to semester start is questionable, but will be processed soon after
8/15/09 1st half tuition payment deadline
9/1/09 Financial aid enrollment verification and disbursements begin on fund by fund basis depending on enrollment status
 

Ideally, students will complete their tax returns and the Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) every February.
