Dr. Keith J. Kowalkowski joined the Civil Engineering Department at Lawrence Technological University in the fall of 2010. He earned a Ph.D. degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from Purdue University. From December of 2005 to August 2010, Dr. Kowalkowski worked for Ruby and Associates specializing in steel member and connection design, finite element applications, erection engineering, and constructability related issues.
Dr. Kowalkowski's research interests include steel connection design, fatigue and fracture behavior of structural steel connections and components, erection engineering, effects of heat treatments on the structural properties, serviceability, and load capacities of steel beam bridges, and the design, behavior, and analysis of structures subjected to fire, seismic, and blast loading.
