Entrepreneurial Lecture Series 

CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION will be the driving forces behind the revitalization of our state – and nation – and Lawrence Technological University is preparing its students to lead the way. To foster the University’s commitment to leadership through theory and practice, as well as create an entrepreneurial mindset, the College of Engineering’s Lear Entrepreneurial Program is proud to present the Entrepreneurial Lecture Series, a program designed to create an awareness and understanding of entrepreneurship – and how it can benefit all of us.

SPONSORED BY the Lawrence Tech chapter of the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization and The Legends entrepreneurial alumni organization, WWJ Newsradio 950, and the Great Lakes Innovation and Technology Report.

Victor Saroki has led Victor Saroki & Associates Architects for over 25 years. The firm’s commissions include theaters, restaurants, retail spaces, galleries, hotels, and residences. Saroki’s work has won over 60 design awards and has been recognized in dozens of publications. In 2007 AIA Michigan named Saroki & Associates Firm of the Year. Saroki serves as vice president on the board of AIA Michigan and is 2012 president elect. He received Lawrence Tech’s Distinguished Architecture Alumni Award in 1998.

(MEC) in 1994, Kit Tomkow is a leading expert in control systems and systems integration for the commercial, industrial, institutional, and educational building industries. MEC provides user-friendly building control solutions that save energy and maintain comfort for the occupants. Tomkow understands the issues that face small companies and what it takes to survive. With the changing building industry in Michigan, Tomkow has sought out new partners and strategic alliances to expand MEC’s business.

Ali Siblani began his career by starting his own company, Sibco, Inc., which provided service and materials for the rapid prototyping industry. With his experience and knowledge, he created his own 3-D printing machine, which became the first of many patented solutions that EnvisionTEC has brought to market. Now head of EnvisionTEC, Siblani has helped to make the company an award-winning, global leader in 3-D printing technology and materials, specializing in high-speed, additive manufacturing machines for the jewelry, medical, toy, and mechanical CAD markets.

Salvatore Bonanno heads Bonanno Enterprises, an acquisition and consulting firm that provides discretionary capital, interim/transition management, and executive consulting services for industrial operations. After holding many executive-level positions during a 30-year career at Chrysler Corporation, he served as chairman and CEO of Grove Worldwide LLC and Foamex International and as chairman of the board of Xymox Technologies. In the span of seven years, Bonanno brought Xymox from the brink of bankruptcy to debt-free profitability.

With more than 20 years of leadership experience in international business, Alan Haase has extensive experience in technology management, turnarounds, start-ups, manufacturing, sales/marketing, acquisitions/divestitures, and operations in domestic and international settings. He has led the successful growth and turnarounds of over 10 multi-nationals and Fortune 500 businesses. In his current position, he represents an international aerospace firm that owns and operates a portfolio of companies focused on the composites/structural sector of the commercial and defense aerospace industry.

Safe Homes Corporation, LLC

Valerie Niemiec is founding principal of Safe Homes, the developer of a dry-stack concrete tile and steel construction system for disaster-prone regions. The company operates in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Haiti. She previously served National TechTeam in various positions, helping to grow the company from 50 employees to over 1,500 in seven years. Named a Crain’s Top 40 Under 40, Niemiec mentors young adults in leadership and entrepreneurship.
