Why Audio Engineering Technology at Lawrence Tech?

To succeed in this competitive and evolving field, you need a solid foundation in the fundamentals of electronics, music theory, and sound technology - past, present, and future. Lawrence Technological University's Bachelor of Science in Audio Engineering Technology blends the concepts of classical audio engineering with modern-day applications, including multimedia components, digital technology, computers, and network systems to give you a strong set of skills with which to enter the field.

In keeping with the University's commitment to theory and practice, the program features a strong laboratory component, allowing you to apply what you learn in the classroom to real-world settings. The BS in Audio Engineering Technology encourages learning through hands-on projects in recording studios and electronics labs, using state-of-the-art equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, and frequency counters to test and verify the operation of commercial audio products.

You will experiment with a variety of recording hardware and software applications, including Pro Tools, and explore sound mixing techniques, processing and production skills, microphone usage, digital recording, and more. Whether you are a seasoned musician or a novice, you will learn basic performance skills and how elementary music theory applies to audio engineering. You will gain knowledge of audio standards as well as musical instrument digital interface, or MIDI, which is widely used in the audio and music industries.

In addition to the music principles of sound, the BS in Audio Engineering Technology at Lawrence Tech focuses on electronics, covering the latest in audio transmission through hardware, fiber, and wireless technologies, as well as acoustics - the physics behind sound. This 126-credit-hour program prepares you to graduate with an in-depth knowledge of one or more of the following topics: analog audio systems, digital audio systems, audio production, and audio application.

At Lawrence Tech, you not only benefit from individual attention, engaging classes, and a high-tech learning environment, but you are also exposed to leadership education throughout your studies. The University's Leadership Program, integrated into all undergraduate curricula, prepares you not only to compete within your profession, but also to lead it.
