Summary


The new program will prepare graduates to acquire upper level knowledge in Engineering Technology areas. The MSET program will prepare graduates to be leaders in the field of engineering technology practice and management.

The graduates will have solid knowledge in evolving technologies, including wireless technologies, prototyping technologies, applied power electronics technology, Nano technologies and alternative energy technologies.

The MSET program will provide students with advanced analytical tools used in decision making and situation analysis, also students will be able to solve sophisticated technical and processes problems and conduct applied and professional research in their fields to improve performance.

Admission Requirements

Students applying for admission to the MSET program should meet the following criteria:

  1. Hold a BS in engineering or engineering technology from an accredited college or university. Students with science and similar degrees are considered if they have a minimum of three years’ experience in an engineering environment. Applicants might be required to take some undergraduate courses if they do not have the required foundations

  2. Provide official transcripts of all completed college work.

  3. Have earned an overall GPA of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale. (Students with lower GPA's may be accepted on a provisional basis, as described below.)

  4. Submit a graduate Application Form

  5. Submit three letters of recommendation, including one from a faculty in the students' undergraduate program, and if applicable two from corporate supervisors.

 

Applicant for the MSET should have math and science course work that is no less than what is equivalent to BSET curriculum at LTU. 

Students with lower than a 3.00 GPA, may be admitted on a provisional basis. They will be evaluated for official graduate student status upon completion of six (6) semester hours of graduate coursework at LTU.  This evaluation will be conducted by the program director, and a graduate committee made up of at least three full time departmental faculty.  Each student will be notified of his/her status within two weeks of completion of the minimum required hours.

Students may apply to the MSET program at any time of the year, for matriculation during any future semester. For students transferring from other graduate programs into LTU's MSET degree program, the following guidelines will be implemented:

  1. No more than six (6) graduate semester credit hours may be transferred, and these must be from an accredited institution. The director and the graduate committee will evaluate exceptions to this policy on a case-by-case basis.

  2. Credit for courses taken in a graduate program other than those listed in criterion (1) above will be reviewed by the program director and the graduate committee for their acceptability as a substitute within LTU's program.

  3. A request for courses to be considered must be made in writing at the time of application.

  4. A minimum grade of 3.00 must have been achieved in the transfer courses.

  5. Courses must be completed within five years after the program is started.  

In order to continue in the MSET program, students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. A student whose cumulative GPA falls below 3.0 after their formal admission to the BSET program may be placed on academic probation and must consult with the program director regarding continuation in the program.

After formal admission to the MSET program, students must complete a written plan of study, which will be approved by the program director, and kept on file for updating purposes in the ET department. The plan of study must be submitted no later than the second semester after the student has enrolled in the MSET program.


Requirements for Completion of Degree 

Candidates for the MSET degree must complete 30 semester hours within the MSET curriculum as defined elsewhere in this proposal.  Six (6) of these hours may be approved transfer courses.  They must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on all courses to be applied toward the degree.

In the semester prior to their anticipated graduation, candidates for the MSET degree will meet with Dr. Sabah Abro, the program director to ensure that they have met all program requirements and to complete the petition for graduation. The program director will then review the petition and give final approval for graduation.
