The Entrepreneurial Lecture Series
WHERE THEORY AND PRACTICE MEET
Background and Program Overview
The Entrepreneurial Lecture Series (ELS) is an integral part of the Lear Entrepreneurial Program (LEP) within the College of Engineering. The LEP was created in 2002 with a gift from the Lear Corporation in Southfield, Michigan. It was this program that provided the foundation of the Lawrence Tech entrepreneurial program within the College of Engineering.
The ELS is unique in is mission. It fosters "theory and practice" by bringing various speakers to the Lawrence Tech campus who are seasoned experienced entrepreneurs and corporate entrepreneurs. Each speaker provides our students with an overview of an entrepreneurial or intrapreneurial journey. This practical "hands-on" perspective brings the Lawrence Tech student added value by complimenting their educational learning experience.
The positive feedback received from students who have attended the ELS is overwhelming. The focus of ELS is to create an awareness and understanding to the world of entrepreneurship and corporate entrepreneurship. Since its inception, those participating in the lecture series were and continue to be students enrolled in senior projects. These projects are designed to integrate individual and team learning experiences and expand the "hands-on" capstone program to integrate the various components of an engineering education and create a "theory and practice" educational environment.
Each term ELS features three speakers in the ELS. The presentations are given in the Lear Auditorium located in the University Technology and Learning Center. They are given on Tuesday in the Fall term and Thursday in Spring term. Each speaker presents twice in one day - 2:00 PM and 5:45 PM. Those attending the ELS will view a 30 minutes presented followed by 20 minutes of question time. All ELS presentations are prepared in a DVD format by the Lawrence Tech audio/visual department. The speaker's presentation then becomes an integral part of the Lawrence Tech Entrepreneurial Library and be accessed by students, faculty and alumni. It is available on the LEP website in the College of Engineering.
The 2008/2008 ELS is proud to feature six outstanding speakers. This academic year Lawrence Tech has arrange an exceptional ELS schedule. The ELS is sponsored by the Lawrence Tech Chapter of the Colligate Entrepreneurs Organization (CE0) and The LEGENDS Alumni Organization.
