Electrical Engineering is

“The branch of engineering that deals with the technology of electricity, especially the design and application of circuitry and equipment for power generation and distribution, machine control, and communications.”

What is Electrical Engineering (EE)?

EE is that branch of engineering organized around the sciences of electricity and magnetism, It is the set of tools and techniques that have been developed to apply these sciences to design processes and devices that improve the quality of human life. The purpose of all engineering is to design new processes or devices that meet human needs.

Some important sub areas of EE are

· Circuits and electronics
· Communications
· Power generation, transmission, distribution
· Signal and image processing
· Controls
· Computer engineering

Electrical engineering overlaps with other areas of engineering such as

· Computer engineering (add some computer science to EE)
· Automotive engineering (computer control of nearly all sub systems)
· Mechanical engineering (controls, power generation)
· Chemical engineering (controls)
· Architectural engineering (lighting and environmental controls)
· Aeronautical engineering (avionics, control)

Electrical Engineer’s are employed in virtually all major industries including

· Automotive
· Aerospace
· Food preparation
· Power
· Biomedical
· Communications (including cell phones)
