
Undergraduate Certificate in Biomechanics
The U.S. Department of Labor projects that biomedical engineering will be the fastest growing engineering field in the next five years. Biomechanical engineers apply mechanical engineering principles to biology and medicine.
For the professional who already has an engineering degree and is looking to move into a different branch of the field, the Undergraduate Certificate in Biomechanics can leverage your experience and quickly prepare you for a position in a growing area of engineering. This certificate program assumes you are highly motivated and have experience in a production environment.
Courses taken for the Undergraduate Certificate in Biomechanics can be applied to the completion of a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering at Lawrence Tech.

Prerequisite
A university-level chemistry course or CHM1213 (3 credit hours).
Any student without an equivalent course of university-level chemistry must talk with an advisor (gbrusher@ltu.edu or 248.204.2586) before enrolling.
(One course may be substituted at the discretion of the biomedical engineering program director.)

Admission Requirements
A bachelor of science degree from an accredited University. If your degree is not in engineering, additional course work may be required. In particular, it is assumed that you have had the equivalent of university-level courses in chemistry, statics, and engineering materials, with a typical engineering mathematics background as required by ABET accreditation.
Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in their undergraduate program may be conditionally admitted to the certificate program. For those students, their eligibility to continue will be reviewed after the completion of BIO1213 Biology 1, BME2103 Biochemistry for Engineers, BIO2203 Anatomy and Physiology, and BIO2021 Life Sciences Lab.
