combined master's + bachelor'sarchitectural engineering

5 Areas of Study

  • Architecture

Architecture | Architecture, art, form, massing, circulation, envelope, aesthetics, community and sustainable design practices are at the 'heart' of the curriculum focusing on building systems integration, optimization, and high performance.

  • Construction

Construction | Courses in project management, integrated project design and delivery, and building information modeling tools prepare and expose students to the world of construction, contracts, operations and maintenance.

  • Electrical

Electrical | Classes in lighting, day-lighting, electrical systems design and power distribution, along with the new lighting, electrical and day-lighting lab bring 'life' to a building. Students learn to integrate alternative energy, alarms, controls and information systems.

  • Mechanical

Mechanical | The 'soul' of the building is its expansive mechanical systems and includes heating, cooling, ventilation, refrigeration, plumbing, fire-protection, controls, acoustics, and students learn about the latest technological advances in alternative energy's including solar, wind, biomass and geothermal.

  • Structural

Structural | The building structure is the 'bones or skeleton' of the building, and students take classes in concrete, steel and timbers. Emphasis is placed on a cradle-to-cradle approach towards natural resource management and minimization of waste.

Architectural engineers are “whole building professionals.” Important members of design teams, they use their creative skills and knowledge of structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering to help construct buildings that are beautiful and functional. LTU’s architectural engineering program is one of only a few in the nation specifically designed to develop your knowledge, skills, and experience in sustainable building design and systems engineering and integration. You’ll learn how to reduce the environmental “footprint” of buildings working alongside professors with industry experience and other architects and engineers.
