How Can I Use Live Classroom?

  • Classroom Archiving (Recording)
    Capturing classroom activity and making it available for review and reuse. Record the audio, video, chat, whiteboard and application sharing in an online class or capture an offline lecture.

Archiving/Recording Sessions

To archive recorded sessions please select the following options:

  1. Automatically Open New Archives (archives are by default set to "open")
  2. Access Settings (expand by clicking the >) -  place a check mark in the "Enable Guest Access" (creates a web link that can be used in emails; backup or in future/other Blackboard courses)

Download/Save Archived/Recorded Sessions

Wimba Classroom archives can be downloaded from Blackboard as either an .mp4 (video) or .mp3 (audio) format and then saved locally onto your computer,flash drive or uploaded to your YouTube account. 

To download a Wimba Classroom archive:

  1. Login to the Blackboard, go to Wimba Classroom session list (Course Tools, Wimba Classroom)
  2. You will see a list of archives associated with each Wimba session.
  3. To download the recording, click on either the “MP3” or “MP4” button to start the download process. (Note, you can only download one archive at a time)

If you download a Wimba archive using the .MP4 format and you want to upload it to YouTube you will need to change the video extension from .m4v to .mp4

  • In your Download folder, right click on the file name and select “Rename” from the list.
  • Change the file extension from .m4v to .mp4. Then hit “Enter” from your keyboard - you may receive a warning that change file type may become unusable – just click OK to make the change. 
  • Verify that you can play the video and once done you now have the video (MP4) saved locally. 

Using Wimba Classroom

How Do I Set Up a Live Classroom?

  • Log into Blackboard Course
  • Select Course Tools; select Wimba Classroom; Create Room
  • Type in a name (e.g., Chapter 5 Review session)
  • Select (check) Enable Guest Access this will provide a URL that can then be email or added to another course or semester.

Create Wimba Classrooms for Groups in Blackboard

Create a menu tab; e.g., Wimba Groups for easy access by students; then use this menu tab to set up a Wimba classroom for each group:

  • Select  "Add Interactive Tool"; "Wimba Classroom"; "Create Room". On the Create Room options page
  • Type in room name; select "Presentation tools are available to to both students and instructor"; select option to "Automatically Open New Archives";
  • Click Submit

Now that room(s) are created need to add a Wimba Classroom Blackboard  link:

  • Select the group room(s) created above
  • On the Add Link: Wimba Classroom page; select (highlight)  the room(s) created above and click Submit
  • Select desired options and click Submit

You will need to create a Wimba classroom for each group.
