Logging into the network and/or your laptop using Windows XP
Every desktop and laptop PC is protected by a login ID and password assigned to the user. This protects your system from unauthorized access and identifies you to the campus network. This ID allows you to login to your laptop and connect you to the LTU network.
All login IDs for students are created from first and last name initials and the student ID number. For example, if your name is Allen Brown, and your student ID number is 000123456, your laptop login is ab000123456.
If you have never logged in before, your initial password is your birthday, formatted as a six digit number in MMDDYY format. For example, if your birthday is November 24, 1987, your initial password is 112487.
You cannot change your login User ID (or User Name), but for security reasons, you will want to change your password.
To change your Windows password:
1. First, you must be on campus to change your login password.
