Campus Internet Outage
March 21, 2010

On Sunday, March 21st, our Internet Service Provider, Merit, will be performing hardware maintenance in the Southfield area.  Engineers will install a new switch and reconfigure fiber connections.

This maintenance will be performed between 4am – 8am, Sunday, March 21, 2010.  The Lawrence Tech campus can expect intermittent network outages during this period.

The Lawrence Tech Laptop Initiative

Lawrence Tech's Laptop Initiative is a dynamic plan to assure that Lawrence Tech students are well prepared to take advantage of advanced learning opportunities, have greater access to educational resources, and achieve a competitive edge in the workplace. Laptop computers can be tremendously helpful to students as they learn, retain, analyze, present, use, and exchange complex technological and graphical information.

Each fall semester, specially configured and branded laptop units, complete with furnished software, are issued to all undergraduate students.  The Lawrence Tech Computer Help Desk provides assistance and on-the-spot repairs if problems occur.

Students may use their own laptops.  However, it does not reduce the student's tuition and fees.  With personally-owned laptops, students also become wholly responsible for acquiring all college-required software.  Due to software licensing restrictions, we cannot install software on personally owned laptops with the exception of some software available to students (MS Office, AutoCad, etc.  Please see the eHelp website and click on the Available Software link).  Repair and exchange privileges and other services available through the Help Desk are not available for personally owned machines.

Graduate students are not currently included in the laptop program, but may acquire a laptop for $95 per credit hour if laptops are available after distribution to undergraduates and faculty.

You may view the current hardware specifications and software list for your particular major on the eHelp website.  From the menu on the left, click on the Laptop Program link.

Undergraduate students will need to satisfy four conditions before receiving their laptop:

1. They must be registered for classes.

2. They must have paid a $500 security deposit which is payable by check or credit card.

3. They must have a Lawrence Tech photo ID card.

4. They must sign the laptop agreement which is online in BannerWeb.

Students under age 18 must have a parent or guardian print out the laptop agreement, provide credit card information, and sign the laptop agreement.

Students can fulfill these three requirements at the One Stop Service Desk on the 3rd floor of the Taubman Stucent Services Center.

Once these conditions are met, undergraduates may pick up their laptop from the Help Desk, located in room C203, Taubman Student Services Center. The Help Desk schedules major laptop distributions at the beginning of each semester.  Most incoming students will pick up their laptops in August just prior to the beginning of fall semester.  Please check  the Help Desk website for a complete laptop distribution schedule.
