Identified Blackboard Issues (Updated January 2012)
Export /Import Course Issue - Instructors PLEASE READ AND REVIEW (January 2012)
If you use the EXPORT/IMPORT FEATURE IN BLACKBOARD MAKE SURE THAT YOU OPEN AND REVIEW THE EMAIL THAT IS SENT WHEN YOUR IMPORT YOUR COURSE.
THE REASON: THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE IN BLACKBOARD THAT DURING THE IMPORT PROCESS A FATAL ERROR OCCURS THAT AFFECTS MATERIAL BEING IMPORTED INTO THE NEW COURSE.
THE TEXT OF THE IMPORT EMAIL WILL CONTAIN THE FOLLOWING:
“Warning: Fatal: A fatal error has occurred. The reason for the error is: com.horizonwimba.blackboard.lc.CourseCopy.BbClassroomCourseCopy.afterImportContent(Lblackboard/data/content/Content;Lblackboard/platform/cx/component/ImportControl;)…"
THIS MAY INDICATE THAT there might be material that is missing in the import process. Items that we have found that may be affected: Discussion Board settings; Tests not deployed; or Assignments
One way to quickly verify is to use the Bfree app (http://its2.unc.edu/tl/tli/bFree/about.html); open the zip file and compare the listing in Bfree to the imported Blackboard course. If missing items/materials, email elearning@ltu.edu with specific information: CRN (new and prior course); Course Information; list of material missing or screen shot of BB / Bfree.
Safe Assignment Issues (June 2011)
Instructors are not seeing Safe Assignments submitted by some students in the Grade Center
Some students have indicated that Safe Assignment projects are submitted; however, the Grade Center does not record or display receipt of the assignment and the report in the Grade Center.
This is a sporadic issue. The issue has occurred in a course where all Safe Assignments were received and recorded properly for all but 2 or 3 students.
An incident ticket has been submitted to Blackboard
Possible Workaround:
If a student has indicated that the Safe Assignment was submitted it may be possible for the instructor to view by:
- Select the Control Panel; select Course Tools
- Select SafeAssign; select Safe Assignments
- Click the chevron to the right of the Safe Assignment project and select View Submissions
A listing of all submitted Safe Assignment will be displayed. If the student's submission is not recorded, contact eLearning Services (elearning@ltu.edu)
Course Announcements Email Notification Issue
The ability to email announcements when creating a new announcement, "Override User Notification", tends to work "sporadically" depending on browser and Blackboard and may or may not send the email. We are still suggesting, just to be confident that students receive emails, that the announcement text be copied (using the browser Edit, Copy or Ctrl + C) and the Send Email option be used.
Temporary Work Around
- Highlight (select) the text in the Announcement Message box; select Edit, Copy (or press Ctrl+C keyboard keys) to copy the Announcement text
- Select Send Email located under Control Panel; Course Tools
- Select whether to send email to All Users; All Student Users; or Select Users
- Type in Subject (the Announcement Title)
- Select Edit, Paste (or press Ctrl+V keyboard keys) to "paste" the copied Announcement text in the Message text box
- Click Submit
Notification will be posted on this page as soon as the issue is resolved
What is Still Unresolved or Under Investigation
Discussion Board Subscribe Function (Graded Discussion Forums/Threads)
Subscription emails from a graded discussion forum or thread using the "Subscribe" contain broken links. The broken links send you to a page with the error "courseId={unset id}". This is reported to be resolved in a later Service Pack. The error does not occur for non-graded discussion board forums/threads.
Content System
When uploading files to either My Content or Course Content area there is an error when using the Java plug-in.
Use the Single File option (top right button), select the “Choose File” option and select and upload the file.
If you want to upload multiple files create a folder on the local computer and place items in the folder; then zip the folder and upload using the Upload package option.
Groups
Members of a group are not able to open, save, or download items from the File Exchange option.
This is a sporadic issue. The issue has occurred in some course groups but not all. This issue has been reported to Blackboard.
It has been possible to open the item by clicking on the item name a few times; however, if this does not open the item, contact eLearning Services (elearning@ltu.edu).
