Difference between Files and Items

To upload a file to Blackboard, use the Build Content pull-down menu at the top of a content sec­tion page. You’ll notice two possible options: Item and File. In almost all cases, you want to use the Item choice

The File option only allows you to find/attach the file; and provide a name - there is no option to provide any instruction or information for the student.

Item allows additional information to be posted such as “Name”; any description or text to the student; as well as attaching the file itself.

It is advisable to load as Items versus Files.
