Difference between Files and Items
To upload a file to Blackboard, use the Build Content pull-down menu at the top of a content section page. You’ll notice two possible options: Item and File. In almost all cases, you want to use the Item choice
The File option only allows you to find/attach the file; and provide a name - there is no option to provide any instruction or information for the student.
Item allows additional information to be posted such as “Name”; any description or text to the student; as well as attaching the file itself.
Why is It advisable to load as Items versus Files? Adding documents as an ITEM gives you the opportunity to add information or instructions that will assist the student. Also, if you just add a file/document using "Add File" with and only include a title such as "Why Blackboard" the student has is given no other information (such as file type)
