A Revolution in Racing
In the Lawrence Technological University tradition of putting theory into practice, a team of students is participating in an exciting competition that employs revolutionary technology in alternative fuels for automobiles. Lawrence Tech students have formed a team to develop a zero-emission, hydrogen fuel-cell-powered racing kart that will compete in the 2008-09 Formula Zero Championship, Student Edition.
Lawrence Tech is the only U.S. university entered in the 2008-09 competition. Lawrence Tech’s team, named Element One in reference to hydrogen’s position on the periodic table of elements, will compete against teams from Canada, Spain, Germany, and the Netherlands. The goal of the Lawrence Tech Element One team is to help change the way people
think about energy and sustainability through highperformance, zero-emissions racing powered by hydrogen fuel cells. Element One team members represent not only the Lawrence Tech College of Engineering, but also the Colleges of Architecture and Design, Arts and Sciences, and Management, making this a truly interdisciplinary activity.
