Factoring

Unit Objective:
Learn to factor: common factors, difference of squares, perfect squares; quadratic trinomials with leading coefficient one; quadratic trinomials with leading coefficient not one; sum and difference of cubes and by grouping.

*All assignments are in Basic Technical Mathematics With Calculus 7th edition by Allyn J. Washington, 2000.

Method of Evaluation:
The unit test will be a pencil and paper quiz taken at your class site. The test will be administered by the instructor or by a proctor. Please see the course schedule for the exact time and date of the unit test.

Objective One
Identify products of polynomials, perfect squares, difference of squares and cubes.

• Read 6.1, pages 166 - 169.

Objective Two
Factor out common factors.  Recognize and factor difference of squares and factor completely.

Objective Three
Be able to factor four terms by grouping.

Objective Four
