
Unit Three
Unit Objective:
Learn the definition of a function and its domain, range, independent and dependent
variables; recognize graphs of the basic functions; linear, quadratic, cubic, square root, piecewise,
rational, and polynomial.
*All assignments are in Basic Technical Mathematics With Calculus 7th edition by Allyn J. Washington, 2000.
Method of Evaluation:
The unit test will be a pencil and paper quiz taken at your class site. The test will be
administered by the instructor or by a proctor. Please see the course schedule for the
exact time and date of the unit test.
Objective One
Be able to determine the dependent and independent variable and understand and be able to
use f(x) function notation. Learn the definition of a function.
Objective Two
Learn the definition of domain and range and be able to use them.
Objective Three
Be able to locate points on the rectangular coordinate system.
Objective Four
Be able to graph a function.
