Technical Mathematics I - Unit 1

Unit One
Integers
Unit Objective:
List the integers and determine their position on the line; Add,
subtract, multiply, and divide integers; Find reciprocals; Compare any to integers;
Determine significant digits; Round to the appropriate place; Evaluate absolute values,
powers and roots of integers; Evaluate expressions using order of operations; Simplify
integer exponent expressions using exponent rules; Substitute into formulas and evaluate
expressions; Use and simplify scientific notation; Convert units of measurement. This unit
should take no more than 2 weeks to complete.
*All assignments are in Basic Technical Mathematics With Calculus 7th edition by Allyn J. Washington, 1999.
Method of Evaluation:
The unit test will be a pencil and paper quiz taken at your class site.
The test will be administered by the instructor or by a proctor. Please see the course
schedule for the exact time and date of the unit test.
