Interested in technology, design, or science?
Juniors and seniors can choose from ten different camps!

Alternative Energy & Power Generation Camp
July 9th – 12th
9:00am – 3:00pm
$125.00

Alternative energy sources include hydrogen fuel cells, solar heating, photovoltaics, biomass, wind turbines, and geothermal systems. Teaching sessions for this camp are held in Lawrence Tech’s state-of-the-art Alternative Energy Research Laboratory, where students not only learn the fundamentals about each of these technologies, but also have exciting opportunities to gain hands-on use of full-size and commercially available equipment in these emerging technology areas.

Entrepreneur Discovery BizCamp
July 16th – 27th
9:00am – 4:00pm
$300.00

This two-week entrepreneurial and business skills camp, or “BizCamp,” is offered through Lawrence Tech's Lear Entrepreneurial Center. This camp creates awareness and understanding of entrepreneurship, including both the challenges and the rewards of running a business. It incorporates hands-on activities and a culminating experience of a business plan competition where students compete for start-up capital (i.e., cash prizes). It also includes guest lectures from local entrepreneurs and perhaps a field trip. The registration fee for the two-week camp includes the textbook How to Start & Operate a Small Business, published by the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship.

Autonomous Robotics Camp
July 23rd – July 26th
9:00am – 3:00pm
$125.00

Have fun assembling Lawrence Tech’s laptop robot, the L2Bot, complete with a webcam. After they learn basics of object-oriented Java programming language using Eclipse IDE, campers explore basic concepts in autonomous robotics navigation, image processing, computer vision, speech synthesis, and speech recognition. Some knowledge of a programming language, such as C or IC, is helpful but not required.

Biotechnology Camp
July 23rd – 26th
9:00am – 3:00pm
$125.00

In a research lab setting, genetically engineer bacteria, grow mammalian cells, and learn how to identify cloned genes. Students apply modern DNA-profiling techniques to solve crimes, and use hi-tech tools to diagnose diseases and track infectious outbreaks. The days are filled with hands-on experimentation with just enough theory and background to make the experience meaningful.

Gaming Camp
July 23rd – 26th
9:00am – 3:00pm
$125.00

This intensive program focuses on the dynamic world of video game development. Students are introduced to the concepts of game design and learn the basics of 3D graphics production, including modeling, texturing, and animating. Students will create their own mini-game portfolio and are required to play games!

Telecommunications/Communication Systems Camp
July 23rd – 26th
9:00am – 3:00pm
$125.00

Students make and understand satellite dishes, radio transmitters, computer network interface devices, serial communication programs, internet communication systems, and telephone networks. Teams and individual students concentrate on creating hands-on actual applications of these and other communications and telecommunications devices. Projects are so much fun, students may keep using and working on them all summer!
