Bettis Foundation
In July 2003, Lawrence Tech hosted a hands-on computer building program for Cerveny High School students thanks to a $40,000 grant from Pittsburgh Steelers’ Jerome Bettis and his Bus Stops Here Foundation.  The program, as described by Lawrence Tech President Dr. Charles Chambers, is "designed to meet two important student needs – easy access to technology, and a greater interest in math and science.”

Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP)
Lawrence Tech is a partner in DAPCEP, offering such classes as "Real Life Engineering," pre-engineering math, and technical writing to students as young as sixth grade.

Partnerships with Local Schools
Lawrence Tech has received four Eisenhower grants to provide professional development in hands-on, science-based activities for teachers in at-risk schools in the Detroit Public Schools, Highland Park Schools, and surrounding areas.  Lawrence Tech was the first university in the area to assume the role of lead agency in the delivery of after-school programs at a Detroit Public School.  The University served in this capacity for Cerveny Middle School during the 2001-2002 school year and the following summer.

Pre-College Business Program
As part of the undergraduate business degree program, Lawrence Tech offers Introduction to Business Practices and Issues, a course specially designed for high school seniors and juniors.  Students earn two college credits toward a Bachelor of Science in Business Management degree at Lawrence Tech, and also may be transferable to other colleges and universities.  The course utilizes e-learning so most class interaction and instruction takes place by computer.
