Our Program
There are three work patterns to choose when applying for the Co-op Program. Each work pattern is designed to consider your academics, as well as the employers’ co-op work assignments. Although one of the following work patterns is most preferred; however, it is suggested to consider all three patterns when seeking a co-op opportunity.
Desired Work Patterns include the following:
| Alternate Pattern – Students alternate between a full-time co-op assignment (approximately 35-40 hours per week) one semester and attend school full-time the following semester.
Example: Student A is employed with XYZ Company for approximately 35-40 hours per week for the fall semester. Student A return to campus as a full-time student for the spring semester. |
| Concurrent Pattern – Students have a co-op assignment part-time for an approximately 20-25 hours per week and register for at least 6 credit hours (part-time status).
Example: Student A is employed with XYZ Company for approximately 20-25 hours per week for the fall semester. Student A is also registered for 9 credit hours (3 evening classes). |
| Parallel Pattern – Students work consecutively back-to-back semesters on a full-time co-op assignment for approximately 35-40 hours per week each semester.
Example: Student A is employed with XYZ Company for approximately 35-40 hours per week for the fall semester. Student A return to XYZ Company as a co-op student for the spring semester. Note: This pattern is more applicable for civil engineering students. |
In most cases, students are able to attend school full-time (12 credit hours). Depending upon the employer, students have the opportunity to work full-time with a company for a co-op assignment when classes are not in session.
