Incredulous Onlookers
by Denise Janus

Today we got on the water at 8 a.m. As we were canoeing down the river to get to Lake Erie, we passed a group of people up on shore at a lodge and dock. They asked where we were canoeing and we yelled back "Pittsburgh!" They started laughing! They didn't believe us!

I said, "We really are canoeing to Pittsburgh!" and they laughed again! Oh well, they'll see us in the newspapers, just like everyone else has.

When we got to Lake Erie we were surprised to find it hotter on the lake than on land.  The water was calm though. As eventful as yesterday was, today was the complete opposite. We put our 10 miles in, and got off the lake at about 10:40 a.m. and went back to camp to take it easy.
