Cheers to the U.S. Coast Guard

by Denise Janus

Today was a rest day, and time to move camp to the Geneva Lodge. Before we left for the Lodge, however, we had to make a stop at the Fairport U.S. Coast Guard Station to get clearance to pass by another nuclear power plant about 7 miles down the coast. We had anticipated just asking them really quickly for the clearance and then getting sent on our way, but not only did they make the phone call and take care of the arrangements, they gave us a tour of the station and their boats!   A big thanks to Frank Benetka for teaching us so much about the life of someone in the U.S. Coast Guard -- what their training consists of, and all the cool equipment they get to use!
