venture-pictures.pngCase Study: Selecting the Right People and Processes for Innovation and Growth

Learn what it’s like to buy and sell a company,
hire your replacement, and
constantly drive for innovative lean processes

Mike Fitzpatrick, BSME’73
Vice President and Former Owner
Fitzpatrick Manufacturing

Mike Fitzpatrick bought his father’s business in 1977 – just four years after he graduated from LTU. He sold the company in 2011 to – whom else? – another Lawrence Tech alum, Kevin LaComb, BSTM’01, MSIO’03. Fitzpatrick remains actively involved in the firm as a vice president. He is “a bit fanatical” about maintaining a tightly run organization of about 80 people and keeping its machinery and 80,000-sq.-ft. facility immaculately clean. He believes that hard work is the starting point for all success: if it is directed and consistent, success becomes more likely.

Test your insight and decision-making skills with Fitzpatrick as he poses challenges and details the critical decision-making moments he faced as a business owner. Learn why innovative lean practices are important for organizational and financial health.
