Dr. Dean joined the LTU faculty in 1983, after five years at Emory University and five years with the Ethyl Corporation research laboratories. He received his B.A. from Carleton College and his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin (Madison), and spent a postdoctoral year at the University of Alberta. His research interests lie in the area of organometallic chemistry, particularly the synthesis and structural chemistry of metal complexes with unusual sulfur ligands. At LTU, he teaches general, analytical, and inorganic chemistry, as well as courses in the Masters of Science Education program. In addition, he serves as Director of Assessment.
Outside the University, Dr. Dean enjoys bicycling, skiing, and music. He currently plays bassoon with the Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra, as well as local chamber music ensembles.
