Gladys Avilés

Dr. Gladys M. Avilés is a chemistry instructor for the Arts and Sciences Department and the First Year Program Coordinator. She’s been at LTU since 1999. She currently teaches general and organic chemistry. As the First Year Program Coordinator she assists the first year students to adjust to college and to succeed in their first year of college.
Dr. Avilés grew up in Puerto Rico and obtained her bachelor degree in chemistry from the Universidad de Puerto Rico-Río Piedras. After finishing her bachelor’s degree she went to Michigan State University to pursue her graduate studies. Dr. Avilés obtained her Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Michigan State University.
Dr. Avilés worked for BASF Corporation as a research chemist before coming to Lawrence Tech. While at BASF she developed new products and improved the production of the current product line. She has published numerous papers and is an active member of the American Chemical Society.
