Dr. Arlinghaus has a Ph.D. with specialties in algebra and graph theory. He regularly teaches courses in discrete mathematics, linear algebra, and modern algebra, in addition to courses in the Calculus sequence and logic. He has published numerous articles in graph theory, and (with co-author Sandra Arlinghaus) has published two e-books, one in geography and graph theory, one in geography and number theory. He also has a published monograph in algebraic graph theory.
A native of Detroit, Dr. Arlinghaus graduated from the University of Detroit summa cum laude. After graduate work at the University of Chicago and the University of Toronto, he received his Ph. D. from Wayne State University.
In addition to mathematics, Dr. Arlinghaus has an active interest in duplicate bridge. He holds the rank of Diamond Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League, and he is the District Director of that organization for this area of the United States. He has also been active in community service as a member of the pastoral council of St. Thomas Catholic Church and is currently president of his condominium association.
Dr. Arlinghaus is a past chairman of his department, and he has served on numerous university committees. He is currently a member of the Assessment Committee.
